Aftercare following laser hair removal

Redness, swelling and sensitivity can occur after laser treatment. Their severity and duration vary. A skin reaction alone does not prove success or failure of hair reduction. Follow the aftercare instructions agreed for you.

Let your skin rest at first

A clean, cool cloth may feel comfortable if your skin feels warm. Avoid vigorous rubbing, scratching and direct contact with ice. Keep skincare simple: only use products compatible with your aftercare instructions.

Heat, tight clothing that rubs, heavy sweating and irritating cosmetics can put additional strain on sensitive skin. Wait before using a sauna, doing strenuous exercise, swimming or exfoliating until your skin has recovered and your individual instructions allow it.

Sun protection remains important

Protect the treated area from direct sun, preferably with clothing and shade. Avoid sunbeds. The AAD recommends a water-resistant, broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 for daily protection outdoors. Follow the product’s instructions.

Sunscreen is not permission to deliberately tan after a session. Plan travel and extended outdoor activities before your appointment. A general waiting period does not replace an assessment of your skin.

Shedding and regrowth

Treated hairs may shed in the following period; other hairs may grow back. Their immediate appearance alone cannot reliably distinguish the two. Do not pluck hairs to speed up the result. Only resume shaving once your skin has fully settled.

Regular exfoliation is not necessary for the treatment to work. Exfoliation on inflamed or sensitive skin may worsen symptoms.

When to seek help

Blisters, severe pain, increasing redness, weeping areas or other unusual changes require medical assessment. Do not try to manage such reactions only with additional cosmetics. Also inform the studio so your next appointment can be reassessed.

Frequently asked questions

Does redness prove that treatment is working?

No. Redness can be a skin reaction, but on its own it does not reliably indicate the eventual result.

When can I shave or exercise again?

Once your skin has recovered and your aftercare instructions allow it. If irritation persists, wait and ask for advice.

Do I need to exfoliate to remove shedding hairs?

No. Allow hairs to shed naturally and avoid rubbing or exfoliating sensitive skin.
